The Parish churches of Birstall & Wanlip Church office: Email: [email protected] Birstall is a large village in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England.

It is part of Birstall and Birkenshaw ward which had a population of 16, at the census. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated close to the M62 motorway, approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west of village is situated between Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Metropolitan borough: Kirklees.

History. The church has Norman origins being founded in by Radulphus de Paganell, the tower is the only part surviving from that era; its first two stages were built in the 12th century.

Parish church, medieval but extensively restored in c, by Gilbert Scott, and now having a large modern extension to the north, the original north wall having been removed.

The medieval building appears to have a late Saxon or Norman core, but is largely late C13 or early C14, and with many later features. Ironstone and granite rubble. West tower, nave with north aisle, chancel.
